Recommendations for Gbemi Oluleye
Working with Dr. Gbemi Oluleye on my research project was a hugely rewarding experience for me….. I felt supported throughout and I always received timely and relevant feedback, guidance, and contributions. I especially learned a lot about how best to approach and engage industry players to obtain essential information for my project. I hope more of her students can take advantage of this. Additionally, I learned how to put together a concise yet strong literature review and thesis report that communicates my aims, findings, and conclusions effectively. These are new skills I am grateful to have developed now and can confidently apply in any professional environment. Also, I particularly liked that Dr. Gbemi was flexible and easy to interact with as my supervisor. Plus, her ability to organise her schedule to allow sufficient time for project feedback sessions is top-notch. To be honest, she is the best supervisor I have ever worked with.

I greatly enjoyed working with you on my thesis last summer, and I want to thank you again for agreeing to supervise me. I am particularly thankful for your responsiveness to my many questions and that you agreed early-on to have regular bi-weekly meetings with me to ensure I was progressing appropriately. I believe my personal learning and thesis also benefited greatly from the addition of the market potential assessment applied as additional analysis to my OSeMOSYS model outputs. I appreciate you helping me incorporate this area of your expertise into my thesis.

At the beginning of the research, I was provided by several relative publications to have deeper understanding of the issue. I still remember I focused on wrong topic when I was writing the literature review. Thanks to weekly meeting, I got back to the right track. Weekly meeting or bi-weekly meeting is quite helpful, which makes sure I am doing right things. Second, you always reply promptly and share your idea with me when I have troubles in software. Apart from the guiding, I also feel independent when choosing methodology, etc. So, it is like I am doing my own project but with a professional consultant.

I would describe being supervised by Gbemi for my dissertation as engaging, stretching and collaborative. Gbemi was really responsive, and I felt well supported whilst being guided to make my own decisions and conclusions. I also found Gbemi was very proactive in setting up collaborative relationships to support the development of my thesis. For example, Gbemi helped me connect with PhD students and other master’s students which helped me improve my research. I would highly recommend working with Gbemi on a research project for these reasons, as well as the fact that she made my research enjoyable.

I wanted to thank you for your support during the thesis. You were a great supervisor, very available when needed and very open to any new ideas on the topic. It was really nice to have the catch up every 2 weeks to stay motivated throughout the summer. I also really enjoyed the two workshops with the whole group: they were very helpful and it was nice to be able to chat with people doing the same kind of research.

I just wanted to say thanks again for working with me on my thesis—I know it wasn’t the smoothest of projects so I especially appreciate your patience and flexibility. You were an extremely proactive supervisor in scheduling our meetings ahead of time and helping me to come up with my project timeline. You were also quick to answer messages whenever needed. When I encountered issues, you helped me to design a new methodology and complete the project on time. This combined with your knowledge of the industrial energy transition made you a great supervisor!

I was introduced to the research area of industrial decarbonisation in a very clear and concise way with the help of extra material and resources continually provided by Gbemi. Gbemi then helped me carefully craft my research topic and questions according to what I was interested in and wanted to explore further. Her guidance throughout the term was indeed beneficial to allow me to stay on track with my project and remain focused on answering my research questions. She was also very organised with bi-weekly meetings set in the calendar right from the start of term- which allowed me to better manage myself too! I found working within the research group very interesting because of how closely linked each our individual projects were, making room for some peer-to-peer support throughout the term. Many projects are also relevant to higher level research students who take data from MSc students’ theses and conduct further research to work towards a broader and impactful aim. It would have been even better if MSc students were introduced to this great structure of the working group earlier in the term and regularly kept in the loop of all active projects within the group as a whole!
